Cheesy Idiom

Thursday July 2, 2009

This week's culinary idiom is:

Ieder kaasje heeft zijn gaatje.

It translates as 'every cheese has its hole', but is used to express that we all have our flaws, i.e. nobody's perfect.

These scrummy savory oude kaas & cumin muffins are made with simple store cupboard ingredients: oude kaas (aged Gouda) or Parmesan cheese, cumin, milk, flour, butter & eggs.

Well, I made these today, even went to the Blokker to buy a muffin tray! What’s better than baking when it’s raining outside? I even had help from my 22-month old helper(he added the cumin seeds on top!). Delicious! As a twist I added a teaspoon of cayenne pepper to the dry batch and placed a dice of chevre in each muffin before it hit the oven. So easy to make and really tasty.
