This style of cake is known as a tulband (Dutch for 'turban') in the Netherlands, because of its distinctive shape. According to legend, the tulband cake was created in honor of the three wise men, who wore turbans as part of their traditional robes. This version, with dried cherries, is also called a chipolatataart and is just the thing for indulgent coffee breaks or for your Christmas spread. Try the recipe.
