Definition: Kersstol = A fruited Christmas bread with a center of soft almond paste.

This delicious Christmas bread is traditionally made with dried and candied fruits, orange or lemon peel, nuts and brandy and has a sweet almond paste center (imagine squidgy marzipan), called amandelspijs. There is also an Easter bread, called paasstol or paasbrood that is pretty much identical.

Also Known As: Kerstbrood (this is often made without spijs).
