Definition: 'Sinaasappel' is the Dutch word for 'orange'. Oranges are often used in connection with the Dutch Santa Claus, Sinterklaas, to symbolize the gold the saint gave to provide dowries for impoverished maidens. Incidentally, the Dutch Royal Family are known as the House of Orange, although that refers to the color not the fruit.
