The restaurant offers a 5 course set menu, based on the day's harvest, but they are more than understanding about specific dietary preferences. In fact, I have always found the waitress staff to be exceptionally friendly and helpful, which can be rare in Amsterdam.
Seated on the patio, facing the herb garden, we perused the wine list, which boasts a weekly selection of about 40 wines, with prices ranging from Euro 25 to Euro 100. I chose a glass of chilled champagne to start, while the waitress brought out crusty bread, olive oil and giant, juicy green olives. Once we moved into the restaurant, our feast began in earnest. We enjoyed seasonal asparagus alongside beets and potato croquettes. We munched on perfectly prepared scallops and salty samphire, and spicy, succulent Spring chicken with carrot oil. We delighted in a dessert of frozen yoghurt and panna cotta, topped with blueberries and strawberries, and then, when we thought things couldn't get better, they served some tender soft Madeleines, sugar coated fruit pastilles and other pastries with our coffee. Culinary heaven!
If the food alone doesn't impress you, the dining room interior, designed by Dutch 'It-boy' Piet Boon, most certainly will. The 8 meter high glass conservatory offers spectacular views by day and is beautifully lit by floating jellyfish-like installations at night. De Kas is a must!
